18th Street Bridge over Vine Street to close for a year

The bridge over the Vine Street Expressway will close for about a year as PennDot works to renovate the span.

The 18th Street bridge over the Vine Street Expressway will close for about a year as PennDot works to renovate the span.

The northbound bridge will be closed to both cars and foot traffic starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, PennDot said.

It is the last of the bridges over Interstate 676 between 18th Street and 22nd Street to be rebuilt using $64.8 million in federal funds.

During the project, vehicles heading north on 18th Street will be detoured east on Vine Street, north on 16th Street and west on Vine Street to access 18th Street. Pedestrians will use sidewalks on 19th Street over I-676.

Later this month, the new pedestrian bridge between 18th Street and 19th Street will open.
