Gus Giordano | Jazz choreographer, 84

Choreographer Gus Giordano, 84, who earned jazz dance recognition as a legitimate art form, died Sunday in Chicago of pneumonia, according to his family.

The founder of the Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Mr. Giordano published

The Anthology of American Jazz Dance

in 1975 and won an Emmy for his 1980 special,

The Rehearsal

. In 1990, he organized the first Jazz Dance World Congress, a week of classes and performances.
