The Soul have promoted Clint Dolezel to be their head coach, the Arena Football League team announced on Tuesday.

Dolezel, 42, was the team's assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. He replaces Doug Plank, who resigned last week after directing the Soul to the AFL's American Conference title and an appearance in ArenaBowl XXV.

"I don't think there is an organization or city that is more committed to winning a championship than the Soul and the city of Philadelphia," Dolezel said. "I am proud to be a part of it."

"Clint is the right person for the job here in Philadelphia," said the Soul's general manager, Tom Goodhines. "He was a big part of our success this season and will continue to a big reason why the Soul will remain a title contender year in and year out."

Under Dolezel, the Soul's offense finished first in the AFL in scoring at 68.2 points per game. He was the head coach of the Dallas Vigilantes in 2011.

A former quarterback, Dolezel will be inducted in the AFL Hall of Fame next year.
