A pandemic didn't stop some 200 Mummers from winding their way through South Philadelphia on New Year's Day. While the official parade had been canceled to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, an unsanctioned parade framed as a protest took place Friday morning.

A mummer holds a sign saying “Bye Bye 2020,” with sanitizer stuck on it and drawings of toilet paper rolls, during a march along 2 Street on New Years Day on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021. Despite orders from the city a few hundred mummers hold a small march.
