"It felt like the perfect mixture of city life and peace and quiet,” one owner says.

Jordan and Drew Porter are not from Philadelphia, but they found the perfect house and neighborhood when they moved there for Drew to go to medical school.

Jordan, an occupational therapist, is from Atlanta, and Drew, an orthopedic surgeon, is from Boston, where they met as college students.

They rented in Fairmount for 4½ years before buying a century-old, three-bedroom, 1½-bath house on a tree-lined street there in 2017.

“It felt like the perfect mixture of city life and peace and quiet,” Jordan says. “We loved how homey it was and close to everything. We love our neighbors. They know your name, and they bring in packages for you.”

An added bonus — particularly when COVID-19 hit — was the partly shaded outdoor space for them and their English bulldog.

But the couple plan to leave Philadelphia when Drew finishes his residency next year and likely takes a fellowship elsewhere.

The 1,740-square-foot house opens into an open-concept living and dining room, but the main gathering space is in the high-ceilinged finished basement with a separate laundry area and ample storage space.

The kitchen has stainless-steel appliances and open shelving, and Jordan says it was one of the things that first attracted her.

The half-bath is on the main floor, and the upstairs has three bedrooms and a full bath. The primary bedroom has plentiful natural lighting and ample closet space. One of the other bedrooms serves as a shared office.

The house is convenient to the Art Museum, OCF Coffee House, and the Green Street dog park.

It is listed by Barbara Nevitt of Coldwell Banker Realty for $475,000.
