Tyrese Maxey debuts his New Balance signature shoes, which arrive just in time for Sixers’ playoff run

“When people put my shoe on, I want them to be joyful. I want them to be happy,” Maxey told GQ ahead of the team’s play-in win over the Magic, where he debuted the shoes.

Tyrese Maxey arrived to the postgame podium on Wednesday night, fresh off the Sixers’ 109-97 play-in victory over the Orlando Magic that clinched the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference. Accompanying him on the podium was his New Balance Maxey v1 signature shoes, which was unveiled earlier in the day.

“Make sure you get them in the shot, now,” Maxey quipped to reporters.

The Sixers’ star, who signed a signature shoe deal with New Balance in 2023, picked a great time to unveil his fist shoes, scoring 31 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, to hold of the Magic and set up a first-round series against the Boston Celtics beginning Sunday (1 p.m., 6abc).

The low-top sneakers have a black base made of suede and mesh material, with light blueish gray accents that swoop into the design. There’s a white collar lining, a black midsole, white shoelaces, and a blue New Balance logo on the back of the shoe.

The Maxey v1 has been in the works since January, but the brand had not yet released details about when the shoe would debut, until GQ first reported the news earlier on Wednesday.

“I still wanted it to look like a classic New Balance shoe. Being in Philly now, seeing the different New Balance shoes, seeing the culture of it, I wanted it to be a reflection of all that,” Maxey told GQ of how he wanted the shoe to be perceived. “What I was hoping for was a shoe you can wear on and off the court and have it look as good as other New Balances.

“You know the way Anthony Edwards’ shoe captures his personality? I want that. When people put my shoe on, I want them to be joyful. I want them to be happy.”

Maxey became the second Sixers player this season to debut a signature shoe. In late November, teammate Joel Embiid unveiled his first signature shoe with Skechers after previously having one with Under Armour.

The shoe, the Sixers’ guard said, will drop in October for $130.

“I’ll make sure you can get them at TJ Maxx,” Maxey joked to reporters, a nod to the “VJ Maxx” brand partnership he and VJ Edgecombe unveiled earlier this week with TJ Maxx.
