Girl shot dead in North Philadelphia; suspect in custody

The shooting occurred at 22nd and Sedgley late in the day.

A man who evidently was firing randomly shot and killed a girl between 12 and 14 years old as she was exiting a bus in North Philadelphia, police said.

Police said they had a 41-year-old male suspect in custody and had recovered a weapon. Police did not name the victim or the suspect.

They said the shooting occurred at 22nd Street and Sedgley Avenue about 4:40 p.m. The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital and was pronounced dead just before 5 p.m.
