Police have identified the 78-year-old man killed in a triple shooting in North Philadelphia on Tuesday.

The man, Steve Alexander, was struck once in the back when gunfire rang out on the 2200 block of Ridge Avenue shortly before 5 p.m.

Two other men, ages 71 and 31, were also injured.

They were all taken to Temple University Hospital, where Alexander was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m.

The other two men were initially listed as critically injured but have since been upgraded to stable condition.

Investigators say the incident began when a light-colored SUV-type vehicle traveling south on Ridge pulled up near the victims and stopped in the middle of the block.

Four people got out of the car and shot at the men, firing more than 50 rounds, investigators said.

The gunfire sent bystanders scattering as bullets struck a parked car and shattered the front glass window of a store.

Investigators continue to search for the gunmen. Anyone with information is asked to submit tips to police at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
