A man shot another man dead on Monday evening during an attempted home invasion in Southwest Philadelphia, officials say.

Police responded to a home on the 1000 block of South 58th Street just before 11 p.m. to find the 64-year-old victim on an enclosed porch suffering multiple gunshot wounds throughout the body.

The victim, who police said was unhoused, was later pronounced dead at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Police say the homeowner, a man in his 60s, shot the intruder as he attempted to break in the front door.

The homeowner’s wife was also home at the time. One person was taken into custody, and both individuals are cooperating with homicide investigators.

Police said Tuesday that investigators would present the facts of the case to the District Attorney’s Office for “possible charging.” They did not offer additional information.
