Andrew and Kristin Wood took to email to announce the June 30 closing of Russet, their well-regarded BYOB — a bastion of farm-to-table cooking in a stately brownstone at 1521 Spruce St., near the Kimmel Center — after seven years.

Thanking guests, they wrote, “it’s been a pleasure serving our honest, straightforward food in Philadelphia. We believe every restaurant has its life span.”

Andrew Wood said they decided to close on the eve of their customary July vacation.

The couple met in a restaurant kitchen in Boston and cooked their way across the country until they hit California. They lived in Napa for about two years before hitting San Francisco. Then they moved to Philadelphia, where their kids, Gus, 11, and Leo, 3, were born.

Special dinners and events are in the works for the final few weeks.

Andrew Wood said he was unsure of their next step, whether it is a new restaurant or working somewhere. “Nothing is off the table,” he said, adding that they fully expect to remain in Philadelphia.
