Driver cited after tour bus crashes in Utah

A tour bus carrying teenagers from Philadelphia, New Jersey and elsewhere along the East Coast crashed near Bryce Canyon National Park on Thursday, and yesterday the driver was cited for drifting out of his lane of traffic, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

The bus went off the highway, flipped, and landed upside down in a creek bed. The driver and 54 passengers escaped before the bus went up in flames. No one was seriously injured.

The bus was carrying 47 teenagers and seven adult staffers on a six-week tour of the West, said Jeff Gass, director of Rein Teen Tours of Wayne, N.J.

"It's amazing. We were very lucky from a terribly unfortunate incident that everybody walked away with minor cuts and bruises. The trip remains intact, and we're working as well as we can to get back to normalcy," Gass told the Associated Press yesterday.
