Why Halloween is better in South Jersey | Inquirer South Jersey
👋🏽 And Goodbye, Federal Donuts.
Good morning, South Jersey. Even if you’re not trick-or-treating or headed to a costume party, make a point to go outside. Temps should be pretty mild and it’s peak foliage time.
Speaking of being festive, Inquirer reporters went on a mission to find the best myths, places, and festivities in Philly and South Jersey to compare what each side of the Delaware River offers for Halloween.
And the Federal Donuts & Chicken in Marlton is closing after 18 months.
Plus, a celebrity hairstylist who is also a Republican candidate for a Gloucester County commissioner seat is running a nonprofit that has been out of compliance with the state for years, and more news of the day.

For those who want to get into the Halloween spirit, there are usually two camps: the people who simply want to have harmless and family-friendly fun vs. those who are in it for the thrill.
In South Jersey, both wants can be satisfied:
If you’re looking for cute festivities, the Diggerfest Fall Festival in West Berlin and the Asbury Park Zombie Walk on the boardwalk are options that all ages can enjoy.
If you’re a horror lover, it’s hard to be beat our legends surrounding the Jersey Devil, the Atco Ghost, and the Absecon Lighthouse in Atlantic City. We also have the Night of Terror at Creamy Acres Farm in Mullica Hill, our massive Halloween park with a haunted hayride and zombie paintball.
After about a year and a half of business, Federal Donuts & Chicken in Marlton is closing on Saturday.
But doughnut lovers won’t go without for too long since the franchise owner already has plans to open a Randy’s Donuts in its place by the end of this year.
After it shutters, there will only be four Federal Donuts left in the area and they’re all franchises.
When it reopens as Randy’s Donuts, the California-based bakery will be the first one in New Jersey.
