A man was stabbed and a woman was assaulted at an Atlantic City resort over the weekend.
The Atlantic City Police Department responded to the Showboat Resort at 801 Boardwalk at 10:37 p.m. on Sunday, to find a 38-year-old woman from Severn, Md., who had been assaulted after an argument, police said.
The woman was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
Police later learned that a man was stabbed in relation to the assault but fled before police arrived. The 38-year-old man, of Newark, was transported to AtlantiCare Medical Center by friends. His injuries were not life-threatening, according to police.
No arrests have been made, and police have not disclosed what led to the stabbing and assault. A representative from the Showboat said incidents like this are not regular at A.C. resorts.
“This is a very rare and isolated occurrence, which we are simply referring to the Atlantic City police,“ the spokesperson said. ”The Showboat takes security extremely seriously.”
Sean Riggin, Atlantic City’s director of public safety, encouraged the public to call in tips.
“Incidents like this are not the norm in our tourism and Boardwalk areas. Atlantic City sees a high volume of visitors every day who enjoy a safe and uneventful visit. When something does happen, our officers and investigators, working alongside private security, respond quickly and work to stabilize the situation and identify those responsible,” Riggin said.
Anyone with information on this incident can submit tips anonymously by calling 609-347-5766 or by texting “ACPD” and the tip to TIP411 (847411).
