State Treasurer Rob McCord likely to enter race for governor Tuesday
State Treasurer Rob McCord is scheduled to make announcements on both ends of the state Tuesday about his plans for the already crowded 2014 Democratic primary election for governor. State Treasurer Rob McCord is scheduled to make announcements on both ends of the state Tuesday about his plans for the already crowded 2014 Democratic primary election for governor. Since McCord registered the "McCord for Governor" political action committee on June 10, we're betting he's getting in when he speaks at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell and then a union hall in Pittsburgh.
Why now? Well some of the top tier candidates -- U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, former state Revenue Secretary Tom Wolf, former state Environmental Protection Secretary Katie McGinty -- are already getting plenty of media attention for their campaigns. And the Pennsylvania Democratic Party is hosting its Jefferson Jackson Dinner in King of Prussia on Friday. McCord probably wants to drum up support for his campaign there.
McCord's political team added Sadie Sterner Restivo, former campaign manager for Attorney General Kathleen Kane and a political advisor to U.S. Senator Bob Casey, two weeks ago. She's serving as a senior advisor.
A Quinnipiac University poll released in June showed McCord leading Gov. Corbett 43-35 percent in a prospective 2014 general election match.
