Eagles sign first of their draft picks
Quitin Demps, a fourth-round pick, signs a 4-year contract
As the Eagles wrapped up the last day of organized team activities for rookies and selected veterans, they also signed the first of their draft picks.
Quintin Demps, a fourth-round pick from the University of Texas-El Paso, agreed to a 4-year deal. Terms were not disclosed. He was selected with the 117th pick overall.
His 17 career interceptions were the most among all players in the 2008 and ranked second in Conference USA and school history. Two of those picks were of current Eagles teammate Kevin Kolb, who only throw four INTs during his senior season at Houston. He also was the first player in school history to have two 100-yard interceptions returns.
Demps, 6-0, 206, played both free safety and right cornerback as a senior and ran a 4.39 at the combine.
The Eagles were expected to take a safety in the draft at some point and surprised some that they waited until Round 4.
Demps also was quite fired up on draft day, telling reporters: "I am a playmaker. If the Eagles wanted a playmaker, they got one as a steal in the draft. I am going to take what I can from Dawkins and just come in there to play with passion. I am not a Pro Bowl player; I'm a Super Bowl player. I am ready to go. I am fired up."
