Mayock's take on defensive tackles
NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock, a Newtown Square resident, will break down each position in advance of the draft for Daily News readers. Here is Part 8 with his take on the defensive tackles:
BEST
Fletcher Cox
Mississippi State
6-4, 298
Arm: 34 ∏
40-yard dash: 4.79
225-bench: 30
Projected Round: 1 (picks 12-18)
Mayock: "All of his measurables are at the top end. He's got long arms. Ran a sub-4.8 forty at 298 pounds. We all went nuts on Dontari Poe at the combine, but this kid ran a sub-4.8 forty. So the measurables are great and the tape is really good. I think he's a kid who's going to go somewhere in the middle of the first round, and I think he's going to be a Day 1 starter. He can push the pocket and also will be stout against the run.''
RISER
Kendall Reyes
Connecticut
6-4 1/8, 299
Arm: 33 π
40-yard dash: 4.95
225-bench: 36
Projected Round: 2
Mayock: "Not a lot of people knew that much about him prior to the Senior Bowl. He had a real good week in Mobile. It forces you to put the tape on and look at him again. Like Cox, he's a 300-pounder who ran a sub-5.0 forty and had 36 reps at 225. And the tape is really good. I had a lot of third- or fourth-round grades on him prior to the Senior Bowl. Since then, he's opened some eyes. And now, I think he's a really solid second-rounder.''
SLEEPER
Travian Robertson
South Carolina
6-4, 302
Arm: 32 π
40-yard dash: 5.32
225-bench: 30
Projected Round: 5-6
Mayock: "I saw him at the East-West game. He's not physically gifted. He'll go late. He's not a starter because I don't think he's got the physical skill set to start. But he's going to end up in sombody's (tackle) rotation and he'll give you quality snaps in the run game.''
