Report: Rodgers probably out vs. Eagles
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the injury Aaron Rodgers suffered last night appears to be a small fracture in his left collarbone that might sideline him about three weeks.
Eagles fans watching last night's Bears-Packers game with mild interest sat up and took notice when Aaron Rodgers jogged briskly to the Lambeau Field locker room with a trainer, following Green Bay's first offensive series.
Rodgers, slammed to the ground on a sack, missed the remainder of the game with an injury to his left, nonthrowing shoulder, and the Bears upset the Pack and backup QB Seneca Wallace, 27-20. This morning, ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that initial tests show a small fracture in Rodgers' left collarbone that could sideline him about three weeks.
The Eagles visit Lambeau this Sunday. Wallace, who hadn't attempted an NFL pass since 2011 before last night, was particularly ineffective trying to throw the ball down the field against the Bears. Of course -- and Eagles fans will be familiar with this rationale -- he might look better given a full week of prep time and the starter's share of the practice reps.
Meanwhile, Eagles corner Bradley Fletcher told me in the locker room at Oakland Sunday he'd be fine after suffering a pectoral injury against the Raiders, but Eagles coach Chip Kelly was less sure of that when Kelly spoke with reporters Monday, and Tuesday, the Eagles brought back corner Curtis Marsh to their open 53rd roster spot.
Marsh, a third-round pick in the Birds' disastrous 2011 draft, was cut in the preseason and subsequently spent some time with the Bengals. He probably is back because the Eagles were carrying only four corners, and might need someone who knows their defense, to come in and play dime this weekend.
Later today, the coordinators talk at NovaCare. Stay tuned.
