LeSean McCoy on weekly award: "I should have had it two weeks ago"

LeSean McCoy was named NFC player of the week for Week 16 on Tuesday, but McCoy was wondering why it didn't come earlier this month.

"They could have it back; I should have had it two weeks ago," McCoy said, referencing his 217-yard performance against the Detroit Lions on Dec. 8.

Chicago Bears quarterback Josh McCown won it instead that week, so McCoy's 133-yard game against the Bears must suffice.

"It's an honor, it's something nice to have, I appreciate any award I get," McCoy said. "But at this point, all I'm set on is this week. Everything rides on this game. All the big stats, big games we had, the losses, the wins. That stuff doesn't matter. What matters is this week."

But there are some key statistics to watch. McCoy needs 37 yards to break Wilbert Montgomery's single-season franchise record of 1,513 rushing yards set in 1979. He's also on pace to win the NFL's rushing title and enters the weekend 189 rushing yards ahead of Kansas City's Jamaal Charles.

"I'm getting them both," McCoy said.

Asked which one means more to him, he took a moment to think.

"I'll say the franchise [record]," McCoy said. "They're the team I play for that drafted me. I signed my contract to be here for awhile. Keeping it here in the franchise is something special."

Safety Earl Wolff practiced on Tuesday. He said his right knee feels "sore, but better than it did yesterday."

Wolff appears on pace to play again Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

"I did everything today," Wolff said. "That's a great sign."

Defensive coordinator Bill Davis called Wolff day-to-day, and that the team will make a decision about how much Wolff plays based on his health.

"The hope is to have the best 11 players out there playing," Davis said. "If Earl is one of those 11, then absolutely. But the best 11 will play.  If he can work back in there, great. If not, we just need the best 11 out there."
