Eagles sign rookie LB Ricky Sapp

The Eagles inked rookie linebacker/defensive end Ricky Sapp to a four-year contract, the team announced.

Sapp, a fifth-round draft pick, gives the Eagles six of their 13 draft picks under contract. Running back Charles Scott, defensive tackle Jeff Owens, linebacker Jamar Chaney, cornerback Trevard Lindley and safety Kurt Coleman have already signed deals.

Sapp was a defensive end at Clemson, often playing the role of "bandit" in the Tigers' defensive scheme. With the Eagles, he's been splitting time working out with both the defensive line and linebackers. In the past few weeks, he's been running with the d-linemen. Coach Andy Reid has talked about occassionally using Sapp as the "Joker" -- a sort of standup end -- in the Eagles' defensive scheme.
