McCoy and the Eagles negotiating

Now that DeSean Jackson has his long-term contract the Eagles have focused their attention on locking up LeSean McCoy to an extension.

The Eagles and the Pro Bowl running back have been in negotiations since the end of the season and could have a deal hammered out soon, according to an NFL source.

McCoy has one more year left on the four-year contract he signed when he was drafted in the second round of the 2009 draft. But the Eagles want to extend McCoy and avoid last season's debacle when Jackson held out from training camp and allowed his contract situation to become a distraction during the season.

If the Eagles don't get a deal done with McCoy they risk the possibility of the 23-year-old holding out. The team recently made an offer, the source said. Negotiations between Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and McCoy's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, have been ongoing, but heated up at the owners meetings in late February.

McCoy is expected to get a deal in line with the top running backs in the league. The Vikings' Adrian Peterson signed a seven-year, $100 million contract with $36 million guaranteed last year. The Titans' Chris Johnson signed a six-year, $56 million deal with $30 million guaranteed also last year.

The Texans' Arian Foster, a restricted free agent, recently signed a five-year deal worth $43.5 million with $20.75 million guaranteed.

Foster and McCoy both entered the league at the same time, although McCoy is two years younger. Last season, McCoy ran for 1,309 yards, caught 48 passes for 315 yards and scored 20 touchdowns in 15 games. Foster ran for 1,224 yards, caught 53 passes for 617 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
