SHORT PRACTICE, LONG LIST OF INJURIES
If you want to know the affect of playing a Monday night game in December, the Eagles provided the perfect example today.
With just one day of recovery time, coach Andy Reid was confronted with a long list of injured players and he dealt with it by significantly shortening practice at the NovaCare Complex. Reid's Wednesday workouts typically last from 1:30 to 3 p.m., but the team was off the field today by 2:15 p.m.
Six players did not participate in practice: Shawn Andrews (back), wide receiver Hank Baskett (sprained knee ligament), wide receiver Kevin Curtis (calf), safety Brian Dawkins (back), guard Todd Herremans (shoulder) and tackle Jon Runyan (knee).
Andrews won't play Sunday and Reid said Tuesday that Baskett is questionable for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.
The good news for the Eagles on the injury front was that running back Brian Westbrook felt good after only touching the ball 19 times -- 16 runs and three catches -- Monday night. Westbrook practiced today and admitted the lighter workload was good for him.
"I think it will save me up a little bit and allow me to be completely healthy and completely rested going into the game," Westbrook said. "Coach (Reid) usually does a good job of trying to get me rested and keep me ready for the next game."
The best news for the Eagles might be that Redskins tackle Chris Samuels is out for the season with torn triceps. That could make defensive end Trent Cole's path to quarterback Jason Campbell a little easier Sunday.
