New Orleans Jazz Fest lineup announced with Stevie Wonder, Tom Petty, Lorde, Wilco and Usher & The Roots

The Firefly Festival lineup came out today, and so did the bill for my favorite musical gathering of the spring season: the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, which takes place in NOLA from April 28-30 and May 4-7.

This year's Jazz Fest sports some fetching headliners, with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Lorde, Alabama Shakes, Usher & the Roots and Nas & the Soul Rebels playing the first weekend, and Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg, Wilco, The Meters and Trombone Shorty the second.

Further big non-New Orleans attractions include Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, Kings Of Leon, Trey Anastasio Band, Pitbull, Maroon 5 and Meghan Trainor.  Along with the Roots, Philadelphia will be in the house in the form of Patti LaBelle, Amos Lee, Carsie Blanton and Frankie Beverly & Maze.

But of course, what makes Jazz Fest great is not its pop headliners. It's the New Orlean-ness of it all, the lassez le bon ton roulet of the wondrous cultural gumbo. The list of native Louisiana acts on hand will include Harry Connick, Irma Thomas, Kermit Ruffins, ReBirth Brass Band, Big Freedia, Boyfriend, Sunpie & the Lousiana Sunspots, Dr. John, Sonny Landreth, Marcia Ball, Big Chief Donald Harrison, Lil Nathan & the Zydeco Cha-Chas, and on and on.

Worthy out of towners on the bill include Margo Price, Lake Street Dive, Rhiannon Giddens, William Bell, Los Van Van, Buddy Guy, Elle King, Leon Bridges, George Benson and Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes.

Info is here. The announcement video is below.
