Yo La Tengo Sun Ra Arkestra Academy of Music Freakout

Sorry, everybody who went to see night one of The National - Yo La Tengo - Wye Oak show at the Academy of Music on Wednesday. You missed the part during Yo La Tengo's set on Thursday, when Ira Kaplan brought out four horn players in full headgear from the Sun Ra Arkestra to turn the trio into a squawking seven piece noise-jazz band. That was how it played out during "Little Honda," the Beach Boys gone skronky rave-up that then led into a sweet yet disquieting version of Ra's "Dreaming," sung by Yo La drummer Georgia Hubley, with Arkestra members offering doo wop molto benes. Matt Berninger and The National weren't bad either.
