The Phillies promoted righthander Kyle Drabek to Double A Reading. He will make his Eastern League debut on Thursday against Akron at FirstEnergy Park in Reading.

Drabek, a 2006 first-round pick, was 4-1 in 10 games (nine starts) with a 2.48 ERA for Class A Clearwater. In 61 2/3 innings, he allowed 49 hits, 17 earned runs, 19 walks and 74 strikeouts.

In his last start on Friday, he threw a complete-game, nine-inning shutout with five hits, nine strikeouts and a walk.

In 2008, Drabek made eight starts during the regular season, four for the Gulf Coast Phillies and four for Williamsport, and combined to go 1-3 with a 2.23 ERA.

Drabek, 21, entered the season ranked as the 5th best prospect in the Phillies minor league system by Baseball America.

Lefthander Gustavo Chacin was sent from Reading to Triple A Lehigh Valley.
