Lidge to pitch 8th in rehab stint

Trying to simulate more usual game conditions, Phillies reliever Brad Lidge is scheduled to pitch the eighth inning tonight for the Class A Clearwater Threshers against the Tampa Yankees.

Lidge is making his second rehab appearance. He started Saturday night for Double A Reading and threw a 15-pitch first inning, allowing one hit with two strikeouts and no walks. He said his velocity reached 93 mph and would get higher once big-league aderenaline kicks in.

Former first-round Joe Savery then went five scoreless innings behind Lidge to improve to 8-1.

Lidge, on the disabled list since June 7 with knee inflammation, also could pitch for the Threshers on Thursday night, pending tonight's outcome. He is eligible to come off the disabled list today.
