Slight rotation adjustment and other odds and ends

Greetings from high atop Fenway Park, where the sun is shining and the chairs are comfortable and the batting practice music kicked off with the Allman Brothers. Ross Gload will serve as the designated hitter tonight against John Lackey, who walked five Phillies and allowed home runs to Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth when he faced them a few weeks ago. Gload is 4-for-14 with a pair of doubles in his career off Lackey. Charlie Manuel said he thought about DH-ing Ryan Howard and putting Gload at first, where he is considered a strong defender, but opted against it to give him the flexibility of subbing in Ben Francisco against a lefty late in the game.

Not much pre-game news to report, other than the that the Phillies will start Roy Halladay on normal rest on Tuesday, which will bump righthander Kyle Kendrick back a day. Kendrick will start Wednesday. The move was made to get Halladay an extra start before the All-Star Break, although it will also move his start next week from the bottom-feeding Indians to the contending Twins.

Kendrick struggled against the Marlins on Tuesday, allowing six runs and two home runs in five innings of a 10-8 win, but in his nine previous starts he had a 3.35 ERA.
