Chipper says Phillies' rotation compares with old Atlanta staffs
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Dominant starting pitching led to 14 straight division titles for the Atlanta Braves from 1991 through 2005 and Chipper Jones was a lineup fixture for all but three of them.
Now, Jones looks at the Phillies four aces and sees what he used to play behind.
"I've heard comparisons to our mid-90s staff thrown around pretty loosely over the years," Jones said Sunday morning. "This is really the first one that I look at objectively and say, 'Yeah, they can compare both with hardware and the cold, hard numbers.' Our work is cut out for us."
Despite the respect he has for the Phillies, the veteran thrid baseman thinks the Braves are ready to challenge the team that has won four straight division titles.
"We have a rotation that is pretty good ourselves and ... I think it's going to make for some good drama," Jones said.
