Phillies-Mets postponed to Thursday

NEW YORK — The forecast was so dour Tuesday, the decision to postpone baseball came nearly three hours before scheduled first pitch.

So the Phillies and Mets will lose a day off Thursday and instead play a makeup game at 7:10 p.m.

The postponement actually means more favorable pitching matchups for the Phillies. They will keep Cole Hamels on Wednesday, his regularly scheduled day. He will oppose Mets rookie Matt Harvey.

Tyler Cloyd, Tuesday's scheduled starter, will pitch Thursday opposite righty Jeremy Hefner. Cloyd has failed to pitch beyond four innings in each of his last two starts. But Hefner has stumbled, too. He has a 5.24 ERA in 10 starts this season.

The decision to play Thursday, on the mutual off day, was made by the Mets. Phillies players preferred to play a doubleheader Wednesday to keep their scheduled day off Thursday intact but that did not happen.
