Zach Eflin to start Monday vs. Pirates
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Phillies will get a look at their third pitching prospect in less than a week when Zach Eflin pitches on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Eflin, 20, was acquired this winter as part of the deal that sent Jimmy Rollins to Los Angeles.
Eflin made 24 starts last season at San Diego's high-A affiliate. He finished 10-7 with a 3.80 ERA. The righthander struck out 93 batters in 128 innings. Eflin is the Phillies' fourth-ranked prospect, according to Baseball America.
The Phillies started Severino Gonzalez on Tuesday and Aaron Nola pitched in relief on Friday. Both pitchers threw three scoreless innings. Eflin is starting in place of David Buchanan, who will instead pitch on Sunday in a minor-league game.
