Gracie DeCocinis moved from Italy to the States as a teen, and grew up in a family of restaurateurs in Hazleton.
It was logical, then, that son Marvin Graaf would get into the red-gravy game, too.
But first, he and his wife, Jess, opened the Philadelphia bars Cresheim Valley Grain Exchange and Falls Taproom. Earlier this year, Graaf opened Pizzeria Nonna in Germantown.
With that, DeCocinis decided to relocate to Glenside, where her son set her up in a stone building with a cute, family-friendly trattoria called Gracie's (17 Limekiln Pike, 215-277-5484, formerly a series of restaurants including da Ludovica).
They're offering house-made pastas, Neapolitan-style pizza, build-your-own boards of Italian charcuterie, cheeses and homemade accompaniments (more than just mustards and compotes), and a seasonal menu of mostly southern Italian dishes in a vintage-y setting that Graaf himself built.
Desserts are limited to budino, tiramisu, and cannoli because you cannoli have so much.
Initial hours are 4:30 to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 4:30 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 4:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday. (Weekend brunch will start Dec. 10 with 11 a.m. openings.)
