Le Castagne in Rittenhouse has closed

Management had indicated as recently as the middle of last week that it had planned to keep the doors open at least through Valentine's Day.

The liquor license is being sold, and the future occupant of 1920 Chestnut St. is rumored to be an Indian restaurant.

The shutdown was abrupt. General manager Anthony Masapollo indicated as recently as the middle of last week that he had planned to keep the doors open at least through Valentine's Day.

Staff had learned recently of the impending sale. Executive chef Michael DeLone secured a new position, starting soon, at Bistro Romano in Society Hill.

Le Castagne opened just before Sept. 11, 2001, and initially was owned by the Sena family. The business was sold ultimately to attorney Rudolph J. "Skip" Di Massa Jr.
