Amtrak train kills pedestrian near Sharon Hill

A person was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Delaware County Saturday, officials said.

The person, who has not been identified, was on the tracks near the Sharon Hill station around 7 p.m. and was hit by a southbound Amtrak train enroute to Washington, D.C.

The person was pronounced dead on the scene, and Delaware County officials are investigating.

Amtrak service was interrupted while police were on the scene.

It was the second time since June that a pedestrian has died after being hit by a train on the tracks near the Sharon Hill station.
