Forecasters: Expect dense fog in Philly area until afternoon

The National Weather Service is warning that the dense fog throughout the Philadelphia area is likely to last until the afternoon.

A fog advisory that covers eastern Pennsylvania is now in effect through noon. The advisory had also covered South Jersey, but was lifted for most of that region at about 10:40 a.m.

Forecasters say visibility in some places is less than a quarter mile.

In parts of eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey, black ice is forming due to freezing fog, the weather service says.

The Philadelphia International Airport was reporting some weather-related delays this morning, and local police departments were urging motorists use caution while driving.

The fog should start to ease around mid-day.

The afternoon is expected to partly sunny, with a high near 50 degrees.
