East Mt. Airy slaying victim identified

A man who was shot in the face and killed early Monday in East Mount Airy was identified Tuesday as 21-year-old Shahid Hawkins.

Hawkins lived on the 1100 block of East Mount Airy Avenue, police said.

He was shot on the 1200 block of East Upsal Street in the Stenton neighborhood about 2 a.m. Monday and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Investigators have not disclosed if they have established a possible motive in the killing.

Police were looking for a gold sedan that was seen traveling southbound on Rugby Street from Upsal after the shooting.
