Chester man dies in July 4 shooting

The waterfront city has had 18 homicides this year.

Police are investigating a shooting in Chester that left one man dead and another wounded.

Police were called to the 1100 block of Brown Street about 11:25 p.m. Tuesday. after receiving reports that numerous shots had been fired and a person had been wounded. They found Joseph LaTorre, 30, in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police stated.

Two other men allegedly at the scene fled in an SUV, 6ABC reported.

The driver lost control of the SUV at Ninth Street and Eddystone Avenue and crashed. The driver, who was suffering gunshot wounds, and his passenger, who was injured in the crash, were taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center, where they were reported in critical condition, the station reported.

Chester has had 18 homicides this year.
