Pa. state representative being deployed to Iraq

DILLSBURG, Pa. - A Pennsylvania state lawmaker is making plans to serve with his Army National Guard unit in Iraq next year.

Rep. Scott Perry, a Republican whose district includes parts of York and Cumberland Counties, is part of a unit scheduled to go to Oklahoma in January and Iraq in April.

Perry, 46, is a lieutenant colonel and a battalion commander in the Guard. He says his legislative staff will handle day-to-day operations in his absence.

Perry is expected to be gone for about a year. He is serving his first term in the House and is running unopposed for reelection in November.
