Audubon QB Rizzo will attend Colgate

Audubon High's Steve Rizzo, one of South Jersey's premier quarterbacks last season, has made an oral commitment to attend Colgate, Green Wave coach Ralph Schiavo announced yesterday.

Audubon High's Steve Rizzo, one of South Jersey's premier quarterbacks last season, has made an oral commitment to attend Colgate, Green Wave coach Ralph Schiavo announced yesterday.

Rizzo, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior, completed 153 of 235 passes for 2,052 yards last fall. He threw 18 touchdown passes and eight interceptions.

Monmouth, Lafayette, Maine and Bloomsburg were among the schools that also showed interest in Rizzo.

Colgate "put together a great package for him - he'll only have to pay $600 a year - and he should have a chance to compete for the starting job as a sophomore," Schiavo said.

In his career, Rizzo threw for 3,957 yards and 30 touchdowns.

"He's a special, special player," Schiavo said.

Rizzo set a single-season school completion record last year, topping the mark of 152 completions set by Joe Flacco, who starred at Delaware last season and is projected to be selected in the first three rounds of this year's NFL draft.

Camden Catholic commitments.

Two Camden Catholic players - linebacker Matt Sheard and tight end Kyle Holmes - have made their college commitments, according to Irish coach Rick Brown. Sheard (6-2, 235) is headed to Rhode Island; Holmes (6-2, 225) is going to Lehigh.

Busler to Penn.

Atlantic City quarterback Todd Busler plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania, where he will play for the sprint football team. Busler completed 157 of 247 passes for 1,956 yards and 13 touchdowns last season; he accounted for 2,490 all-purpose yards.
