Terry Tormey’s career as a pharmaceutical company executive — and now consultant — has led him and his wife, Donna, to live in a wide variety of homes and apartments since they became high school sweethearts in Pittsburgh.

They moved from Buckingham Mountain, bordering New Hope, to Chalfont in 2018, and Donna says, “it was always my dream to have a Bucks County farmhouse. This time we were going to do it for real.”

The 1802 farmhouse was on four acres and included a nearby outbuilding.

“What caught my eye was the renovations by the previous owner,” Donna says, “deep window sills, beams from trees [on the property]. It’s very grounded in the surrounding area.”

The walls are 18 inches thick — layered stucco and wood siding, native stone and plaster. The outbuilding has a loft above it and a two-car garage, connected by a stone courtyard that has a hot tub big enough for eight.

Now, though, the couple is looking at downsize from their 3,134-square-foot home to a cottage — destination undecided.

“I’ve never lived in a cottage,” Donna says.

At the farmhouse, the renovated kitchen has a granite counter, farm sink and large island. There are wide-plank wood floors, and the living room and sunroom have native stone fireplaces.

The four bedrooms on the second and third floors include a primary suite with modern bath and updated hall bath. There is ample closet space and shelving.

A wide brick porch spans the front of the house. The rear yard, which is fenced, has carefully cultivated landscaping and a walled courtyard.

The outbuilding has a wood stove and air-conditioning, and ample storage, work areas, and flex space for a studio or gym.

The house is listed by Amy Ernst of Carol C. Dorey Real Estate for $699,000.
