During the early hours of Oct. 13, a Paulsboro mother and stepfather told a dispatcher their 9-year-old daughter wasn’t breathing and that they suspected she had been hit by a car.
While the young girl, Maya Thomas, was at the hospital, Paulsboro police spent hours that morning looking for evidence of a collision.
Eventually, investigators concluded there was no car after searching for damaged vehicles and hunting for access to surveillance footage.
But what they did find was mounting evidence that pointed toward what may have happened inside the family home.
India Miller and Sean Scott were in custody by the time Thomas died that same day in the evening.
