Good morning, South Jersey.

There’s a new type of store on Haddon Avenue in Collingswood open to musicians, record lovers, and those who want to indulge in their nostalgia.

And New Jersey has a plan to restore 10,000 acres of Atlantic white cedar in much of the Pinelands, but environmentalists take issue with how the state wants to execute the initial phase.

Plus, Gov. Mikie Sherrill disclosed the discovery of more issues with the state’s voter registration system, and more news of the day.

A new one-stop-shop on Haddon Avenue in Collingswood is a place for artists who desire a creative space, hobbyists who love physical media, and anyone who might just long for Blockbuster.

Joseph Mallah, the owner of Vintage Future Now, wanted to create a spot for artists to buy and make music. He shares the space with his friend, Mike Jada, who has turned his collection of roughly 3,000 movies and TV series into Deja Vu Video, a rental business of VHS tapes, DVDs, and Blu-ray.

Jada’s lifelong accumulation of movies — rentable for $5 per week — takes up the front of the store while the back room houses instruments and recording equipment for local bands to use.

“It’s not like we’re going to put Netflix out of business or anything,” Mallah said. “We just have to pay the rent.”

Follow along as Sarah Nicell explores the quirky shop.

New Jersey houses half the remaining stock of the East Coast’s Atlantic white cedar, despite the state’s historical 115,000 acres dropping to only 25,000.

The state has a $19 million plan to reverse the collapse, and the first phase targets more than 170 acres in Waterford Township.

The issue, according to environmentalists, is that the plan requires removing existing healthy and mature trees. They’ve begun rallying against it in various ways: social media, blogs, and at a recent New Jersey Pinelands Commission meeting.

The commission will vote on the proposal Friday.

The Inquirer’s Frank Kummer breaks down the factors at play.

What to know today

  1. Gov. Sherrill announced on Wednesday that her administration’s review of the state’s voter registration process found issues related to age verification and a reentry program.

  2. The teenage driver of an SUV who drove onto the sidewalk and injured six other teens near Lindenwold High School on Tuesday was charged with aggravated assault and joyriding.

  3. Gloucester Township police are investigating multiple incidents of traffic sign vandalism. Authorities shared a video of a suspect walking along Blackwood Clementon Road on Sunday.

  4. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency finalized its plan to clean arsenic contamination at a Superfund site at a former chemical company in Vineland. It will target soil that continues to affect groundwater and floodplains.

  5. A pastor provides free rides to take Camden residents living in food deserts to supermarkets with more fresh food options in Cherry Hill.

  6. A dedicated Phish fan known for recording the entirety of the band’s shows and then sharing them with other fans was killed Sunday in a fatal crash in Atlantic City after a Saturday concert.
