On Friday, April 9, the city will open a mass vaccination clinic at Esperanza in Hunting Park to make vaccines easier to access for residents of North Philadelphia. To further serve community residents, the Lenfest Local Lab @ The Inquirer is providing free, essential information about the clinic to West Kensington, Fairhill and all North Philly residents via text message as soon as details become available.

What are we offering?

Texts, which will be available in English and Spanish, will highlight the most essential information including:

  1. Updated vaccine eligibility requirements

  2. Instructions for scheduling an appointment once you’re eligible

  3. Transportation and location information

Text subscribers can also ask questions about the process of getting vaccinated and we’ll do our best to respond. Please refrain from sharing personal health information, as we want to protect your privacy. (Note: We’re currently unable to help residents book appointments.)

How can you sign up?

Sign up by entering your phone number below. You can also sign up by texting “INFO” to 267–209–1661.

Who will the messages come from?

Messages will come from the Lenfest Local Lab @ The Inquirer, a news product innovation team at The Philadelphia Inquirer. Our cross-disciplinary team draws on the expertise of our journalists, researchers, designers and engineers to make essential news and information accessible to more people. You can learn more about us here.

What else should I know?

Frequency: Residents should expect to receive about one text per day, and more when there is news from the city or the clinic. Residents also won’t need to unsubscribe from the text messages. They will end when vaccination efforts in North Philadelphia come to a close.

Privacy: The Lenfest Lab @ The Inquirer will not share, sell or otherwise make available to a third party any personal information, including phone numbers, before, during or after the experiment.

We appreciate your feedback: If there is anything else we can be doing to provide accessible news and information about the Esperanza mass vaccination clinic for North Philadelphia residents, please let us know. You can send an email to kbrennan@inquirer.com.

Thank you, and be safe.
