Trinity Health, which owns the three-hospital Mercy Health System — St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, and St. Francis Healthcare in Wilmington — announced the consolidation of patient billing for its operations in 22 states at three Midwest locations and the outsourcing of information technology operations.

Nationwide, 1,200 billing workers will be given the opportunity to move to sites in Michigan and Ohio, and 450 IT workers will be offered jobs with Leidos, an information services company, said Trinity, which is based in Livonia, Mich. In the Philadelphia region, more than 50 IT workers will be offered jobs with Leidos.

On the billing side, 139 people in the region will be asked to relocate or find a new job at Trinity Mid-Atlantic, which employs 9,200, not including medical staff. If those options don’t work out, they will lose their jobs. Two IT jobs are not moving over to Leidos, Trinity said. The transition is scheduled to start this summer.

Mercy Health’s hospitals are Mercy Fitzgerald in Darby, Mercy Philadelphia in West Philadelphia, and Nazareth in Northeast Philadelphia.
