Teen killed in early morning Kensington shooting, police say

Police are investigating whether the incident was tied to drug dealing in the neighborhood.

A 19-year-old teen was shot and killed in Kensington early Monday morning, authorities said.

The gunfire erupted around 12:45 a.m. on the 3100 block of G Street, according to police.

Officers arrived to find the victim, whom police have not identified as they attempt to notify his family members, suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m.

Investigators are working to determine whether the shooting was related to drug-dealing activity in the area, according to a law enforcement source who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.

Investigators recovered 16 fired shell casings from the scene.

They have not made an arrest, and the investigation is ongoing.
