Ex-teacher charged in child-porn case

More than two years have passed since the feds seized Jerome Bennett III's computer on suspicion that he had downloaded child pornography.

More than two years have passed since the feds seized Jerome Bennett III's computer on suspicion that he had downloaded child pornography.

But yesterday, the 46-year-old teacher, of Havertown, was charged with receiving and possessing images of child pornography.

During the investigation, authorities cross-referenced the child porn Bennett possessed with photographs of the children he taught, but no link was found, said Michael Levy, chief of computer crimes with the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Bennett taught technology and seventh- and eighth-grade science at Saint Monica in Berwyn for the last nine years, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia said.

On the Rate My Teachers Web site, his students' comments about his teaching style range from "awesome and easy" to "kinda weird."

"He is always making comments that are sometimes rude and discusting [sic]" one student wrote.

Before Saint Monica, Bennett taught for five years at Saint Bernadette Parish School in Drexel Hill.

Bennett's contract was not renewed and he will never be hired by a Philadelphia Archdiocese school again, a news release said. *
