‘Good Night Oppy’

Angela Bassett narrates this engrossing, and surprisingly heartfelt, documentary about the Mars Rover Opportunity. It was built to explore Mars for about three months, lasted 15 years, and during that time developed an amazing bond with its NASA inventors back on earth. Directed by Ryan White. (Rated PG. Premieres Friday, Nov. 4, in theaters.)

‘Armageddon Time’

A semiautobiographical family saga from writer-director James Gray (The Yards, Ad Astra). Set in 1980s Queens, New York, it’s a story of immigration, race relations, and the pursuit of the American dream, mixed in with a little guilt. Anthony Hopkins is a grandfather, whose family escaped the Holocaust, who teaches his grandson a lesson in standing up to bigots. With Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong. (Rated R. Premieres Friday, Nov. 4, in theaters.)

‘The Return of Tanya Tucker — Featuring Brandi Carlile’

Tanya Tucker was a country music star at 13, and after decades of hits and a tabloid-loving love life (boyfriends ranged from Glen Campbell to Andy Gibb), sort of disappeared — until Brandi Carlile coproduced a Grammy-winning album for her in 2019. This documentary looks at Tucker’s life and her incredible comeback. (Rated R. Premieres Friday, Nov. 4, in theaters.)
