The Flyers have never worn a jersey that wasn’t orange, white, or black — until now.

This season, the Flyers will wear a dark gray jersey — “Liberty Gray,” to be exact — as part of the “Hometown Remix” uniform series revealed Monday by the NHL and Fanatics. The Flyers will debut the uniforms on Tuesday against the Minnesota Wild (7 p.m., NBCSP).

Like the NBA’s “City Edition” and MLB’s “City Connect” uniforms, the Hometown Remix alternates aim to “uniquely and authentically celebrate the fans, city, and local culture of each team.”

“When developing these new uniforms, we set out to create something that embodies the pride, passion, and history that makes Philadelphia such a special city,” Flyers governor Dan Hilferty said in the team’s release.

“In the midst of celebrating our nation’s 250th anniversary, we seized the opportunity to honor Philadelphia’s significant role in America’s story while celebrating the generations of fans and communities that have shaped our own.

“These uniforms bring together the city’s rich heritage and the spirit of hockey, creating a design that honors our past while looking ahead to the future. They’re a tribute to Philadelphia, to our country, and to the pride we share in representing both.”

The new jersey includes several nods to the iconic Liberty Bell, including a similar crack in the player numbers on the back. The inscription on the bell, “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land unto All the Inhabitants Thereof,” is featured on the sleeves in a black tone-on-tone UV stamp between several Burnt Orange stripes. The matte black helmets have a Liberty Bell decal on the back and cracked number decals on both the front and back.

The Flyers’ iconic “Burnt Orange” color is used in the striping on the sleeve, which also represents the Flyers’ 60th anniversary, and is featured on the bottom of the jersey. On the inside of the hem, the Flyers gave a nod to the 250th anniversary of the United States, and inside the collar there is a Constitution wordmark. Each nameplate, which is normally in the Serif font, is now Sans-serif.

One of the more interesting parts of the jersey is the crest. An important piece of the Flyers’ history and foundation — and often talked about, especially in the Rick Tocchet era — the crest on the hometown remix jersey is raised to mimic the Liberty Bell’s casting. The traditional white accent has also shifted to an off-white color called “Declaration Parchment.”

The Flyers will wear the jersey 13 times in all, including twice on the road — Nov. 30 in Toronto and Feb. 26 and March 20 on Long Island.

The Flyers will also wear the jersey at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Nov. 27 (vs. Vancouver), Dec. 3 (New York Islanders), Dec. 14 (Florida), Dec. 18 (Detroit), Jan. 10 (Chicago), Jan. 23 (New Jersey), Feb. 20 (New York Rangers), March 7 (St. Louis), and March 18 (Boston).

Each home game will be part of an “Independence Edition” experience. More details about what that entails will be released on Tuesday. The new jerseys are now available to fans at shop.outphitters.com and in person tomorrow at Xfinity Mobile Arena’s team stores.
