Boy, 9, fatally shot in East Germantown

The child was shot in the face in the 5900 block of North 20th Street.

A 9-year-old boy was fatally wounded in a shooting Tuesday night in the city’s East Germantown section, police said.

The boy was shot was in the face shortly before 9:30 p.m., police said. At the time, he was inside the house where he lives in the 5900 block of North 20th Street. He was transported by police to Einstein Medical Center and pronounced dead at 9:47.

When police arrived, they found the boy’s 15-year-old brother at the house as well as an adult male. Both were taken to be questioned by homicide detectives.

The child may have been shot accidentally, but police did not immediately find a gun at the scene.

Homicide detectives were executing a search warrant inside the house.
