6ABC's Wendy Saltzman announces she has breast cancer

6ABC reporter Wendy Saltzman announced Friday morning via Facebook that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Saltzman said she ignored a warning from her doctor to get a mammogram follow-up in 2015. She was officially diagnosed Dec. 22.

Saltzman has been with 6ABC since 2012.

PhillyVoice reported that Saltzman would undergo a double mastectomy.  "I hope women take their health seriously, and when they're told, 'You need to get a mammogram' or 'You need to get a repeat mammogram,' go get it, because you really never know," she told PhillyVoice. "You might think you're the healthiest person and it can't affect you. You may not have a family history, but it can affect you."
