Chamber picks Comcast's Cohen for William Penn Award
The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce will give its highest honor to David L. Cohen, executive vice president of the media giant.
Comcast Corp. executive vice president David L. Cohen will receive the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce's 2011 William Penn Award, the highest honor the group gives to a local business executive.
Before joining the media giant in 2002, Cohen, 56, had been chairman of the law firm Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll L.L.P.
He was also chief of staff to Ed Rendell, when he was Philadelphia's mayor during the '90s.
Last year, the award, which has been handed out annually since 1949, was given to Joseph A. Frick, the former CEO of Independence Blue Cross.
Announcement of the 2011 award, which will be given to Cohen on April 20, 2012, comes two days after the chamber also picked the 2011 recipient of its Paradigm Award, given to a high-achieving area businesswoman.
Rosemary Turner, who oversees 15,000 employees as president of UPS Small Package Operations in the Chesapeake District, will receive the award March 22, 2012. Last year's Paradigm Award winner was Lynn L. Elsenhans, CEO of Sunoco Inc.
