Philly police officer, dirt biker injured in collision

A Philadelphia police officer and a motorcyclist were hospitalized Monday night after a collision in Northeast Philadelphia, police said.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. in the area of Howell Street and Torresdale Avenue, police said.

As the police car turned left onto Howell from Torresdale, it was struck by a dirt bike speeding northbound on Torresdale, police said.

The officer was transported to Jeanes Hospital and is expected to be treated and released.  Another officer was in the vehicle, but was not injured.

The dirt biker was transported to Aria Health-Frankford Campus, where he was reported to be in critical condition Monday night.
